Compassion Through Action is a volunteer run 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our purpose and mission is to help those experiencing homelessness in our communities by providing goods and services to those most in need. Our efforts currently include collecting and distributing donations of food, important hygiene and grooming items, clothing, and many other basics such as tents, blankets and more. Our organization currently serves the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area and Española, New Mexico. We hope to expand our efforts to other communities in the coming years.

Our History

The idea for Compassion Through Action grew from founder Jeff Padilla's volunteer work with the homeless through a small grass-roots volunteer organization called St. Theresa's Kitchen.

In early 2002, Jeff joined this group whose goal was to provide sack lunches to the homeless on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles once a week. By 2004, the group had dwindled down to just Jeff and the founder, Barbara Kiklas, along with a group of young volunteers from the local Catholic school.

When Barbara moved away in 2006, St. Theresa's Kitchen dissolved, but Jeff continued his volunteerism by collecting and distributing donated food, clothing, blankets, etc. to the homeless every Saturday morning.

In May of 2006, he decided to up the stakes by setting up an official non-profit organization and in February 2012, Compassion Through Action was recognized by the IRS as a public charity and given 501(c)3 tax-exempt status.
